My First Week

Well I have arrived in beautiful, cold and rainy England. I am living in an area called Chafford Hundred whih is in Thurrock and part of the Essex county. I am currently living with 6 other Aussies in a 3 story house.

MAJOR EVENTS SO FAR:

* Did my first sightseeing tour of London last Sunday - visited Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and experienced my first real WET day

* New Year's Eve - went into London to watch the fireworks. Had dinner at an indian place an experienced my first English pub where I proceded to have several 'kips' (the jet lag hadn't worn off yet). Fireworks were awesome, despite the freezing cold

* Had my first day in an english school - worked with 5 students in the primary section of a special school and enjoyed rubbing in the Ashes victory to the other teachers and support staff

Well thats about it for week 1. One of the biggest things I am noticing it the lack of daylight we have. I left for work at 7 and it was dark. It is dark again come 4.15pm. Makes you very tired and ready for bed by 7pm.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the new year. Bye for now!

Getting to Brisbane

It's 3am, 17 December 2006 - my plane for Brisbane leaves in 3 hours and I've just finished packing and sorting all my remaining belongings. Leaving it to the last minute? Na, still 3 hours up my sleeve.

Now, who thinks I will be charged excess baggage? I have 2 large sports bags full of clothes, 1 cosmetics case (and you know how much they weigh), 1 brief case wheel bag, and 1 small wheel bag - now thats just to book in.

I know that I am going to have to be a little less 'excessive' when I finally leave the country. I'm not liking the whole '20kg limit' though. Well that just means I will have to do more shopping to restock my wardrobe, my new winter wardrobe.

I think it is time I get a small amount of shut eye before I have to face the excess baggage charges but before I go a big thank you must go out to all the wonderful people who are looking after my belongings while I am away - thank you!!!!!

Goodnight
