Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Chloe, 29 y.o., French. I studied photography right after high school but being still quite young I wasn’t ready to focus on a career path yet. I went on to live in Australia, then travelled through Africa for a while, back to France, then I lived in Spain, now I am back in Australia, and soon it might be Chile. My love for photography comes from the feeling that it helps me experience a lot of different lives. I also have a passion for languages, I speak three and I hope to learn many more. Obviously I have been taking photos all these years but I’ve never made a living out of it. But it wasn’t my priority at the time. I now feel ready and mature enough to make a first real step into the industry. But I need knowledge of what is it like on the field. I want to observe the choices a photographer makes on the spot, watch him move around a subject, see what settings he has decided to use for this specific photo. I want to see what a one week assignment consists of. And I have many questions. In the near future, I would like to undertake long term documentary projects that would require me to spend a certain amount of time in one place and on one subject.

My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

Barcelona is a very popular city for travellers of all sort and the old Gothic quarter is often crowded. Our idea was to show that there is still a way to discover this place without following the beaten path and that to get a real glimpse of Barcelona it is important to take your time strolling through the alleyways and talk to people.

Bruna has participated in numerous video projects with friends and is producing a visual art event in Barcelona but has had no experience in front of the lens. Chloe has studied photography and video. She has filmed concerts and music videos mostly for friends and is continuously working on her own personal projects.

Bruna was born in Brazil but left while still young. Exploring such an incredible event from her country of origin while being guided through the best way to show and share this experience with the public is a one-time opportunity. Chloe’s fascination for other cultures has brought her to not only travel but also settle in various places. To be mentored by a professional while working on the field would be an amazing way to make a first real step into the industry and learn so much more than she has through her academic studies.
