Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Living the dream is an exploration of the seaside town of Newquay, Cornwall. Like many other towns in Cornwall, Newquay is a place that many thousands of people experience temporarily through their holidays. However, many of these people are not holidaymakers. They are surfers who are dedicated to their sport and this is what has changed Newquay the most. Many of the surfing community have chosen to live there all year round to fulfill their dream of being able to surf whenever they want.

This work considers how Newquay transforms itself from a place where people live and work to what amounts to an international sports venue and how the community, residents and environment experience the changes to their town and population as it moves from the comparative quiet of winter towards the frenzy of the surfing and tourist season.
