Trip up the Ucayali river in Peru

I am a senior at Barry University BFA in photography program. I am a 21 year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard that decided to go to school after retirement to pursue my passion for photography. Through photograpy I can interact with the world in a therapeutic way to overcome anxiety. I am fluent in Spanish and I have been to Peru this past Summer with my church in a ministry mission to the village of Galilea. I love to make images that bring the realities of life from different cultures and highlight the harmony with nature and the environment. Since I am retired, my goal is to do photography for charitable organizations that would benefit from professional photography to bring awareness to their cause.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States. I retired last year (2012) after 21 years of honorable service to my country.

I applied to Barry University Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography to follow my childhood dream of being a photographer. I was denied my application originally for lack of enough credits; I was so mad that I enrolled in summer classes and got 10 credits (3 classes) in a little over a month (with a 4.0 GPA). I was accepted to Barry University and I have remained in the President's List since enrollment.

I am the only photo major student that holds a 4.0 GPA over 3 consecutive semesters, I have accumulated 58 credits so far, and I will finish my BFA in photography in 2.5 years rather than 4.

I was just the recipient of a scholarship from Barry University where I went to study in France for 3 weeks where I took the images submitted in my work.

I enjoy shooting at night because of the technical proficiency and difficulty of getting an image right.
