Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I'm sure that I share the same dream as everyone else who has entered to win the Travel Photography Scholarship. My dream is to travel the world with my camera in hand. Documenting my travels, finding stories and sharing them with the world.

Now for a little about me. I started taking my photography seriously when I was 18 years old. Now 24, I have learnt a lot over the past 6 years, but am still keen to learn more. I’m constantly thinking about photography which can drive those closest to me a little crazy.

I made the move from Perth to Melbourne in 2012 to continue my photography studies at RMIT university. I have been lucky enough to have learnt from some of the best in the business. I enjoy challenging myself to get the best photos possible and creating work that I’m truly proud of and I’m not afraid of taking risks. I believe that you need vision, tenacity and confidence in everything that you do.

This travel photography scholarship would be the best way for me to start my photography career. Everyone needs that lucky break or to get their foot in the door. What I hope to gain is an insight into what it’s like to be a working professional out in the field.

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Being a young student photographer i’m seeking the opportunity to gain a foot in the door of the photographic industry.

Gaining a Scholarship from National Geographic would be the perfect way for me to start my career. I’m a 22 year old emerging photographer who doesn’t just want this opportunity, i need this. I have the vision, tenacity and confidence in my photography and just need the chance to show what i can do with a camera in hand. I’m always on the lookout for new ways to learn and working with Jason Edwards would benefit me immensely. Learning keeps the mind young and travel broadens the mind.

Travel photography has always been a dream of mine. I love to travel and photograph new and exciting countries, my aim is to make the viewer feel like they were there, right beside me. The images need to be strong, powerful, emotive and be able to tell a story that engages the audience.

It’s important to share images with the community and if i were to be successful in gaining a scholarship, i would love for my images to be viewed by a large audience.

An exhibition with Jason would most definitely be the best way for me to showcase my images and hopefully gain some industry interest which could lead me to a successful career in photography.

In late 2010 i explored Vietnam and travelled by bus, train, motorbike and boat from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is full of amazing people, scenery and a compelling history and culture which all makes for endless photo opportunities. From the mysterious and magical Halong Bay, to the bustling city streets of Hanoi. I hope my images can take the viewer on a Journey that entices them into visiting Vietnam.
