Wild for life - AIDS testing in rural Zimbabwe

I can't keep myself away from photography.
It keeps pulling me back into it, it keeps leading me in new directions.
There are always going to be people who are better photographers than I am, always. They all have these things in common - they're not me, do not see like me, they don't have my vision and they will not love it like I do.
This is not an arrogant statement, it's what identifies my photo's as my own.
Thats where, beauty, art and life magically lie.
Being an amateur photographer has afforded me many adventures in life, so in due course, I pay it back where I can. Such as this volunteer work for a NGO that works with health clinics in rural parts of Zimbabwe offering free aids testing amongst MANY other things to help improve quality of life for those it can reach.
I shoot the occasional wedding and it's fun, I love taking pictures of arguably one of the best days of peoples lives.
I want to build a bridge from that side of the bank to something like yours. Everyone has their own path, I feel this scholarship could be mine.
I hope to be inspired, to learn valuable lessons from your stories and to gain confidence that everyone starts in the same place, and it CAN be done.
Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Hi Jason,
I've just returned home from 3 years living and travelling overseas.
My obsessions during this time were BASE jumping & photography. My x-girlfriend said I always cheated on her with them, Mistress photography & Lady BASE!
After living the dream as so many people call it, I've decided to keep chasing my heart even further. BASE is awesome, but I pick up a camera before a parachute when that awesome sunrise comes along.
I'm expecting to be working with you to be inspiring, informative & encouraging. I also expect frustrations, lessons sometimes learnt the hard way, inbetween snippets of sleep - I know it won't be a holiday but I still think we can find some fun along the way.
My series Interactions in India were shot at leisure only after the shock of poverty had washed from my eyes; still plenty on my face. I'm going to be chasing work at home through weddings & portraiture, so I believe this experience in story telling to be invaluable to my future career in the industry. It doesn't matter what aspect, if there's no story, there's no emotion, no interaction, ultimately, no shot. I previously entered in 2011 & will continue until selected.
Your bags belong in my hands!:-)

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Photography is the first thing I think of when I wake up, and the last when I got to sleep, inbetween? I DREAM about it. I'm currently travelling and usually Landscapes is my deal, but living in London has pushed me outside my comfort zone into portraiture. I don't know the people in these photo's. They are strangers. Whilst not a continual story line, every subject has their OWN story. Look to their eyes & search, here they have opened up to a stranger with a camera that has chosen them from the masses. I have started a series of this, I'm growing as an artist & a photographer. I'm realising the potential that is out there outside of comfort. That you must press forward no matter what!
The genesis of this lies in my lust for Life.. I also am a BASE jumper. There is SO much planning and training behind each jump - not a death wish, a LIFE wish! I push myself with each jump, I grow with each jump, I learn so much about myself and the environment I am in.. I have been transferring this to my photography, honestly, it's exciting. I have a new lease on my vision. I want to GROW, and this opportunity will encourage that. I am used to no sleep, long days, early starts, with my BASE jumping. This also requires that I be flexible and adaptable to any situation. I love immersing myself in new cultural experiences! I believe variety is the spice of life, so I love the idea of finding new and fresh challenges. I already have loose plans to travel through Africa volunteering for wildforlife.org. A South African friend I met through Jumping founded that organisation. I feel this will be a stepping stone & head start at the same time, to a new solid career, a new life in the direction I am constant;y finding myself. I AM A SPONGE FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM & TEACHINGS JASON!!
