I'll never forget the day that I graduated high school. I didn't graduate with my class. I failed my math class my senior year. I was heartbroken when my counselor came into my last class of the day. He told me that I fail math and that I would need to take a summer class to receive my diploma. A few hours later, my mom told me something that I would never forget, "Baby, You don't need that diploma. I'm proud of you no matter what." I cried and told her I was going to get that diploma, even if it was for her.
On the 20th of June, I started my math course. But a week later, on the 27th of 2013 I graduated. I got my diploma at my high school with my mom and her best friend present. My mom cried the whole way home. I remember how proud of myself I was. I did something that many people in my life told me that I wasn't going to do. Even my older sister said I wouldn't be able to do it, how I proved her wrong. That night, my dad took me and my younger siblings out to dinner-Chinese , my favorite.
I remember that day. I always will. I remember how early I had to wake up to get to my last class. I remember how proud the teacher was to hear that I would be getting my diploma, after all isn't that what every high school teacher wants? I remember how my mom was crying when I handed it to her. I even remember my younger sister telling me how proud she was to have me as a sister.
I think, no, I know that everything happens for a reason. And for some reason, I didn't graduate with my class. But I did do what I set out to do- get my high school diploma. Some may say that's a small victory in life, but to me all small victories are big victories.
