Benaras

Benaras is one of the oldest living cities of the World. With time, the city may have changed but at the Ghats, the ethos remains intact. For most Indians, it is a city of mystique and religious fervour. Men, come here after renunciation of all worldly attachments, widows out of piety and pilgrims out of sheer devotion. Geographically too, it is unique. The legendary crescent sweep of the Ganga, is most intriguing while, the reversal of her flow (to south to north) just for Benaras adds a sense of poetic charm.

A 'place' I have visited

Photography, started as a hobby for me in school & a diploma course in the last nineties opened up a whole new world. The equipment and outlook have changed since then, but the passion and the creative desire has remained the same. Over the years, my profession of being a Sports Journalist with a leading TV network in India has helped me travel the world and India in particular. And, that has helped me create a body of work of which includes travel photos, people portraits and landscapes and everything else under the sun that evoked my emotions and stimulated my aesthetic sense. The urge, to graduate to next level, of being a professional photographer has increased in the last few years but is yet to fructify in any manner. This scholarship, will go a long way in helping me achieve my goal and will perhaps be the stepping stone towards a career that has enthused me all my life.
