Mission Highway : Fight against HIV/AIDS” went all over country ( India ) on bike spreading awareness on HIV + peoples right.

I am a young man from the state of BIHAR and a Rotaract Club memmber of Bombay Hills South is a post graduate student of College of Social Work (Nirmala Niketan) , Mumbai University.

I went all over India motorcycle tour to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS related legal issues. his 150 day tour, flagged off on 21st December 2003 from Gateway of India, Mumbai, covered 18 states and over 70 cities all over India. “Mission Highway – to FIGHT against HIV/AIDS” covered over 150 highway side dhabas where I sensitized truck drivers about issues related to HIV/AIDS and over 300 public meetings on the issue at various cities and villages aimed at young people..

Apart from experiencing the country from a close proximity my campaign about the present awareness level of HIV/AIDS among people. I strongly feels that youngsters should be aware of the legal issues related to the disease.

The objective of this campaign was to explore various rights and legal issues that have benefited just a handful of HIV/AIDS patients but need to be available for majority of HIV/AIDS infected or affected person and their families.

The MISSION wants to motivate youth to utilize services provided by the government of India like Voluntary Counselling Test Centre (VCTC) for better information
and education in various towns and villages of India or all India hotline number 1097 for the information and assistance on HIV/AIDS related issues.

In an effort to reach to youth and communitiy, I networked networked with Rotaract Clubs , YMCA ,Colleges , Schools and the YHA. AASRA Charitable Trust, where Birendra first got experience and exposure to HIV AIDS issues is a part
of the campoaign. various NGOs working in the villages and colleges of Social work organize participatory
talks. During his stay in each city he visits Volunteer Counselling Test Centers, HIV positive patients and organizations who are working with commercial social worker. It was wonderful strategies to see my country and same time share culture with people in other state.
