Coming to Thailand

Beth in Thailand

21 year old Scot with pale skin and no tolerance to spicey food.

Why travel to a country that has hot weather and a country that boasts exotic spicey foods then? Must be madness I hear you say!

Well, leaving my family, friends, irn bru, bacon, good milk, rose wine (the list could go on...) to teach in Thailand was a very daunting experience in itself and one I couldn't of done without the support of my family and friends. I've always wanted to experience new cultures and new countries and meet new people, so travelling to Thailand ticked all these boxes. Coming from my comfortable life in the southside of Glasgow by myself to central Thailand has indeed been a culture shock but a good one at that. I've already met lots of lovely new people, some will be friends for life, and I feel I've experienced a completely new culture and I've only been here 2 weeks and 2 days...so who knows what the next 4 months will have in store for me - I can't wait!

This journal will document my experiences here as a teacher and also as a traveller. It will keep you updated on my day to day life here and it will also help me remember all the amazing times I've had over here when I eventually come back home.

Enjoy, adopt the Thai saying 'Mai Pen Rai' (its okay/it doesnt matter) and everything seems a lot easier - no stress!

And of course...keep smiling!

B x
