From Camel to Cadillac

My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

This time I did one unusual thing that I choose my wife to accompany me on the condition of not having my laptop with me.
My recent visit to Dubai was a shocker. A forest of skyscrapers had been grown up during the last decade.. Those who used to live in tents now have centrally air conditioned palaces. A local owner of a construction company told me that at the wedding ceremony of his mother, she was presented a pair of oranges as her wedding gift; it was because the poor lady never tasted it before. with the advent of oil they jumped from camel back direct to Cadillac. Lamborghini, Mercedes, hammer and Land cruisers. Every bit of sand in Dubai has transformed into a world class show case but the only thing which still stands is the inbuilt psyche of the Emiratis. Nothing is changed. They are occupying all the executive seats in national as well as in multinational companies as a bonus of being born in this soil. They are just accommodated and are paid heavy amounts; on the contrary the people who do the real work are paid next to nothing. I have never met so many in competent persons in such senior position any where in the world.

One day I visited a clinic of a Doctor to consult about my wife’s blood pressure problem. We were asked to wait. When my wife was busy with the Lady Doctor I for the sake of killing time asked a local student who was carrying books and was sitting just beside me, in which class do u read. He answered O level, I again asked what he wants to be in life, and he said a Doctor. Just to prolong my conversation I again asked why?
Without any hesitation he answered, just to meet variety of women patients with ease. This answer of a teenager still haunts me badly and gave me a lesson of lifetime that if you want to contribute for a nation, before building castles & Forts, Make them mentally strong Because MATERIALISTIC DEVELOPMENT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE WITHOUT THE MENTAL DEVELOPMENT.
