Spent just over a week in China and really enjoyed the experience. The highlights were seeing Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, cycling around the Hutongs in old Beijing, the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, and the Bund in Shanghai. Was great fun travelling around with Dad and Nicole. The lowlights were the pollution which really is ordinary and the plane delay in Xian which ended up costing us a day in Shanghai.
There were a few occasions where the odd bit of Mandarin would've been handy but we got by pretty well I think.
