Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I have always loved taking pictures however I never had the money or the time to ever make anything other than a hobby of it. When I travelled overseas, I tried to capture as much as I could on my little camera but I couldn’t help thinking some moments were lost because I lacked the knowledge of someone who was a professional.
This opportunity is beyond words, not only would I get to travel to a place I’ve always dreamed of going and take photos, but I would gain invaluable knowledge that I would carry for the rest of my life. As a current film production student knowing how to frame and compose an image is so important and this opportunity could ultimately directly contribute to my career.
I eventually want to learn to capture an image that allows others to see the world as I see it. When I look around, particularly at natural landscapes, there is a music and a movement to them. By taking a picture at just the right moment, I would be able to capture a single note that I can listen to always.
The photos I have chosen are from the Outer Hebrides and though I have tried my best to encapsulate the spirit of a place not often photographed, I cannot help but wonder what they could have looked like had the National Geographic taken them.
Photography is so important to me on a personal level. Photos are memories made solid and that is something that does not have a price.
To be chosen for this scholarship would mean everything to me. I am passionate about everything I do, hardworking, creative, like a sponge when it comes to information and believe in living every single day to its greatest extent.
