Fode Mane my story from Africa to Australia

The travel film scholarship has a dual meaning for me. Firstly, it would invigorate my own art practice and also allow me to provide resources to Colombian children. Being a visual arts teacher in Australia, I would make a compelling documentary founded in the stories and customs of the place.

In San Cipriano, Colombia I witnessed a young boy painting river rocks with water colours that I made available in the village the previous day.
In 2008 I participated in a dance and drum workshop in West Africa where I got to experience the unique artistic dance culture of Guinea. I learnt so much from the native people and their zest for life.
My sense of adventure and ability to heed advice would allow me to embrace this educational opportunity with Brian Rapsey. I am physically fit for hiking and enduring mountainous terrain. I speak intermediate Spanish and I have the ability to adapt to my surroundings and used to working long hours, early mornings and late nights.
I already have an understanding of the Colombian and African cultures which would be a great benefit to relate on many levels to the people on the pacific coast with them being of African decent. The scholarship would be a fantastic opportunity to return and document the unique culture of that region with the moving image.
I believe in the power of story telling to educate the people and keep the traditions and stories alive, it would be an incredibly rewarding journey to undertake as a film maker.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - Blue mountains bowerbirds

Travel photography is a passion of mine. I have travelled to over twenty countries and documented my journey through pictures. I enjoy finding beauty in nature or anything that captures my eye.
I was raised in the Upper Hunter valley in NSW and spent a lot of time at my Uncle's pig farm. I remember holding the piglets when they were born and the deafening sounds from the pig sheds. The beautiful surrounding landscape of the Upper Hunter and the fond memories on the farm of helping calves be born are memories we documented with photographs. I love the nostalgia of a photograph and the beauty of capturing a time.
My passions amongst photography are film, art, music, animals, travel and comedy.
I am a great traveller. I respect the customs of a culture and love to go off the beaten track. I am passionate about photography, especially travel photography. I would love to be mentored by Jason Edwards a truly amazing inspirational photographer. I believe I am a great listener and appreciate constructive criticism.
Capturing light, drives me to take a better shot. I am a bit like an impressionist artist in the way the painter liked to capture light at various times of day to depict the changes. Certain times of day are ideal for the best lighting to take a photograph, but learning to manually manipulate your camera gives you more flexibility.
I believe having a good camera is important for a photographer, but above all else knowing how to capture a subject in a frame well seperates a good photographer from a great photographer.
I would like to be an acclaimed photographer. To make a living from my passion of photography and travel. I do believe in the saying ' a picture is worth a thousand words' and I would like to share my story through photography. I am a creative, kind and enthusiastic person and i am always ready for the next adventure!
