Photos: My Scholarship entry - Skies of the World

Myself - very quickly, it would be - Traveller, Photographer, Sister, Friend & Educator of tomorrow's heroes & leaders. For as long as I can remember I've been surrounded by travel and cameras - so it's become part of my DNA essentially. Teaching high school I use the life skills and experiences that I have gained travelling in the classroom. Outside the classroom I enjoy taking photographs of the students on the sports field - it creates a positive relationship between the students and myself. Why should I be chosen - the most basic reason, I want to learn more and want to be able to capture the photographs that I see in my mind everyday, containing everyday things or extraordinary things, and translate it accurately into a photograph that I can be proud of, and admire. I want to be able capture the true essence and emotion of a scene/scenario - so that it can be expressed in the photograph, regardless of who views it.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I'm a soon-to-be 30 year old High School Biology teacher with two major addictions. Travel and photography. Both of which I'm grateful to say I picked up from my parents & grandparents. For as long as I can remember we've travelled locally & from my "tween" years internationally taking in different sights, sounds, tastes with introductions into different cultures. And all the while my father was there with a camera capturing us growing up & experiencing new places. Now when I travel, I'm always taking in the local culture (generally through the food; sitting & watching the people go by & local markets) and most importantly the natural beauty - which is where a majority of my photographs are taken. Any opportunity to develop my skills, especially to really capture the local culture and people, will allow me translate my story telling in through my photos with more depth is something I’m looking for. I tend to capture people in motion on the sports field at work. And I believe that this scholarship would allow me that opportunity to expand my story telling skills.
