Healthy Alternatives While on Vacation

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES | Tuesday, 4 September 2018 | Views [90]

Going on vacation is great – it’s the ideal chance to really relax, to enjoy yourself, and to come back home feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and ready to take on whatever is going to come your way. However, in many cases, you can also come home a few pounds heavier. We all know the culprit. It’s tempting indulge more often than you would at home when you’re on vacation and pause your exercise routines. After all you’ve worked hard to enjoy your much needed time off. There are some tips and tricks to follow when you’re on vacation which can help you stay healthy and on track with your weight loss.

Plan Ahead

Before leaving on vacation, research activities, the local cuisine, and make a list of the foods you can’t wait to try. This list can help you find great places to eat and help you know when to indulge in a sweet treat or local dish and when to choose the healthier option. If you’re embarking on an active vacation you may need to increase your exercise routine in preparation. Despite having a great trip ahead, some days it might be hard to find the motivation to go to the gym. When those days strike, use some simple motivation tips to help energize and focus on your end goal.

Limit Your Sugar

Whether you’re away on vacation or at home, our metabolisms don’t change, so unfortunately we can’t throw caution to wind while on vacation. If you simply go ahead and eat anything you want at any time, you wouldn’t be surprised if you weigh more when you get home than you did when you left. The healthy alternative is to indulge sometimes on vacation but try to limit yourself. When you’re done with a long day of sightseeing choose one treat to enjoy. You might opt to ice cream or (a healthy alternative) frozen yogurt.

Spend some time researching, and reset to a “yes I can” mentality. It doesn’t sound like a lot of fun at first, but it can actually be an interesting challenge, and something that will help you to appreciate the local food a lot more. You’ll really need to know about each dish that you’re considering because you have to make a choice.

Enjoy A Picnic

When you’re on vacation, you will be exploring new places and finding new things. What you can also do is arrange a picnic day (or a number of them). Picnics are great alternatives to eating in restaurants because you can choose exactly what goes into your food. You may not want to go on vacation and stand over a stove cooking, so a picnic allows you the freedom you want and still means you can prepare your own food.

Picnics also mean that you get to go to local markets and stores and interact more with the community. You can use authentic local ingredients and have a much more interesting meal than you would in a restaurant. Plus, you can eat anywhere you want, such as on the beach or at a beauty spot.

Proper Planning

A lot of the time, poor eating comes from having no plan. You might be on the beach, for example, and suddenly realize you’re hungry, and then just go to the first café or restaurant, or even fast food stand. You might be snacking on ice creams and treats throughout the day without even realizing it. Having a good plan when it comes to meal times is essential, and a much better alternative to just winging it. You can scope out great places to eat that have healthy food options on tours of San Diego, for example.
