How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES | Wednesday, 8 August 2018 | Views [31]

Traveling is an amazing experience, everybody knows that, but it’s also one that can have an impact on your weight loss progress. When traveling you’re constantly on the go, may be missing meals and indulging in a few too many local delicacies. There are ways, however, to beat these potential setbacks to your weight loss and have fun traveling.

Don’t let your sleep suffer

Although it’s not ideal to miss the occasional meal and stop working out for a bit when you’re traveling, try not to let your sleeping pattern go awry. When traveling, especially when you’re crossing time zones, your body is going to feel more fatigued. It is for this reason why you should not only listen to your body when it clambers for rest, but why you should also make sure that you give it the rest it wants.

Make smart food choices - Enjoy but don’t binge

When traveling, it’s hard to avoid all the delicious treats, especially if you’ve been watching what you eat closely leading up to the trip. While it’s fine to enjoy your trip, try to limit the number of empty calories foods - such as potato chips. These sorts of foods  should be avoided because of the fact that they offer nothing in the way of nutrition including vitamins, minerals and fiber. Try to avoid foods that are very sugary and alcohol where you can.

Opt to walk

It might be quicker and easier to hop on and off of public transport, especially when you don’t know the area you are traveling through, but doing so all the time will do nothing for your health. What will do something for your health, however, is walking. If you map out your route and discover that your destination is within walking distance, walk it! You might even see something spectacular along the way.

Make your own meals

It can be tough to control portions and calories while traveling. Different countries have different views on portion control. Some will be stricter, and some will be looser than you are used to. What this means is, while traveling, you are likely to come across meals that you either cannot stomach (but will want to finish anyway because of the money spent), or meals that you could have eaten twice, meaning you’re never going to find that perfect portion that your body needs. An easy way to avoid this, is simply make your own meals. Pick up local foods at the market and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal. Doing so will give you the chance to choose exactly how much you will be eating depending on your own dietary needs or requirements.

Traveling is all about having the time of your life, but you don’t have to let your health slip to have such fun. So, go out and see the world, but don’t see your health drop when you do.
