My name is Altair and I am here to apply for Travel Photography Scholarship 2011 – South Africa. I enjoy doing many things, I am always prepared to try something new and challenge myself, I love meeting new people and learning new things. My three passions are travelling, mountaineering/rock climbing and of course photography. I was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan and spent most of my teen years there. Having Tian Shan mountains so close to the doorstep it was only natural that I spent many summers and winters in the mountains with my dad and uncles crossing glaciers and climbing peaks. This is where I get the passion, the craving for mountains and nature in general. I absolutely love to get away from the hassle of big cities and embrace the tranquillity and rawness of nature. I quite often travel around outback Australia with friends and try to go overseas at least once a year to see new places. If I could travel, take pictures, visit new places, meeting new people all year round, I would do it without hesitation. As an 8 year old boy I got my first 35mm FED camera and signed up for photography classes and I haven’t stopped taking photographs ever since. I must admit, I am an absolute gadget and techie lover, I read a lot about latest technologies and future developments and quite often amongst first adopters of new gear, if I can afford it.
