Photos: My Scholarship entry - Coastal Life in Rural Mexico

I'm an outdoor loving, explorer who hopes to shape her career around documentary and ethnographic photographer. Having travelled to over 25 countries, I've got an intense passion for the unknown and the drive to help tell the stories that aren't being told. I see this era as one of opportunity to document and preserve disappearing cultures and communities. There has been some interest in my work, but not enough to pay the bills or get me to the next level. I blog and manage social media for multiple organizations and NGOs, frequently volunteering within my community I primarily work with environment and refugee focuses NGOs.

Growing up in American Samoa, the jungle was my backyard, though we didn't have tarantulas larger than my hand nor gold mining operations threatening the ecosystem like Peru. I'm drawn to this scholarship because I feel the chance to work beside a NGS photographer would greatly improve my skills. I've got the gusto to navigate the rainforest, the passion for environmental impact NGOs like WWF, and the desire to explore the little documented Amazonian Peru. Quite simply, I am interested in being a part of this photo essay!

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am a photographer who has travelled to several countries, and love landscape photography as well as capturing local culture. I want to focus my career on conservation photography and in documenting disappearing cultures, traditions, minorities and human rights violations in small communities. Visiting Greenland, a country on going through geological and culture change, is the kind of subject I enjoy documenting. I have felt the limitations of my training and knowledge and would truly grow from a guided expedition in Greenland. While I have made some income with my photography, it is still more of a hobby and I hope to push through to the next level and feel this experience would give me the chance to just that.
