My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Incredible India! Earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit India and immerse myself in their colourful culture. A trip to Varanasi, the ‘Mecca’ for Hindus, was amazing. Hindus aspire to visit Varanasi at least once in a lifetime to bathe in the holy waters of the Ganges River, to gain eternal life.
I love photography because it enables me to be creative, forge a bond with the subject, execute an image beyond words and generate a reaction and dialogue from the viewer whilst providing an experience which they may not have encountered.
I am passionate especially about animals in their natural habitat, people and their cultures, the preservation of traditions and to represent these through the power of the lens. In particular I try to capture my feelings as well as the subject’s natural beauty and potential in the image, to show the subject as it is, to give the viewer a true representation and emotional response.
With my photography I always strive to take the best shot as I need to express the ‘emotions’ of who or what I am seeing through the camera and to express my feelings and emotions about the subject.
Myself, I am active and adventurous with an outgoing, easy to get along with personality. I am interested in the world around me, observant, keen to learn and enjoy interacting with people and animals, being involved in cultural diversities and experiencing the beauty of nature.
I foresee my future in photography travelling across continents, immersing myself in the different cultures and obtaining the best possible shots of people, their lives, surrounding landscapes, animal and plant life.
I would love to be a part of this South African adventure with Jason Edward.
