Travelling is an internal self-discovery as much as an enlightening one of the external world. Every time I travel, I find out a little more about myself - what I am capable of. I went to Tunisia alone at 17 and realised I could understand a language I'd rarely heard, simply by paying more attention to the individual speaker. Their face, body and tone told me everything I needed to know.
At 18, when I spent 3 months in the Himalayas with Platform 2/Christian Aid, I learnt that I could hike to work every day without dying of poor fitness. I learnt that I could capture a dangerous big spider and the rodent found in our room, despite being scared of what both could do with one bite. I learnt that even as a woman, I could urinate standing up!
I learnt many things on my travels, most of which make for some funny stories but it goes much deeper than that.
I understood myself better when I returned to 'normality'. I was a wiser and more content person with myself, with who I was/am.
I live a humble life working in a store and when I have time, I enjoy such hobbies as film-making, acting and dancing but the experiences I gained from 17-24 can never be left behind. I'm ready for my next adventure. Will you join me?
