Photos: My Scholarship entry - Looking around Big Island

A photographer captures moments in time that can never be revisited. The resulting photograph tells a story of that moment. The camera is just a tool, as is a paintbrush, or a pencil. Images are created, never taken.

Before photography became a passion of mine, I fell in love with all of the wild places shown on TV. I watched every wildlife documentary I could get my hands on. In high school I discovered my love for photography and a few years later I took on videography as well. Right now, I am in Costa Rica striving to build an underwater portfolio and become a professional in the world of scuba diving.

Being awarded this opportunity to learn under such a talented individual as Jason would help me to add journalistic qualities to my photographs and reach my goal of becoming a professional wildlife photographer. My dream is to one day capture something the world has yet to see. I hope that with proper guidance and training, I can make that dream a reality.
