Ft. Lauderdale

Ft. Lauderdale has been interesting so far. My flight from JFK was delayed so I got in at 12am and have to kill a solid 9 hours until my flight to San Jose. On my flight here I sat next to a man and his wife, he told me that he had just traveled to Maine and was happy to avoid the tourists season in Maine, but still found plenty once he visited Ogunquit. I told him that I was from Maine and we discussed traveling. Turns out that he has been down to Central America and a plethora of other places around the world. He gave me some great advice about Costa Rica, namely: keep your mouth shut when showering, be careful not to swim downstream of livestock as the rivers could be largely bacteria filled, and to watchout for aligators. He gave some re-assuring advice as well, namely that everyone was friendly and would help, that I could buy any medicine that I needed and find almost everything that I would in the US at supermarkets, and a few places to checkout.

When we got to the airport he suggested that I head to the beach here but when we asked a cab how much it would cost he promptly offered to give me a ride himself. I didn't want to spend the extra money for the cab back (expensive in Florida) so I stayed at the airport until I decided to try and walk to a local 24-hour dinner (Lester's). I got lost walking around the outside of the airport and opted for a cab anyhow haha.

Lester's has already provided me with a few stories, my first impression was that of a Deny's back home. Within 5 minutes of sitting down I had been yelled at by one staff member for trying to plug my phone into a socket, seen three cross-dressers with makeup still on their faces, and been asked if I was single by another staff member (jokingly). My particular waitress was phenomenal however and gave me a few chuckles and made sure that I felt quite comfortable and welcome!

Looking forward to adventures ahead and more new people...

JFK delays

Construction at JFK postponed my flight from Portland, and now again to Florida. Doesn't make too much of a difference though, considering that I had a 4 hour layover in NY and a 10 hour layover in Florida. Met a dude on the plane trip to NY, he goes to Lewiston and wants to move to NYC for investment banking. He claims that most people have to be from ivy-league schools or know someone to get into it, but once you've done 2 years then the payoff is phenomenal (first 2 years are hell). Well I've got a lot of time still before I'm finally out of the US, more to come...

Packed, ready, gone...

Finished packing late this morning, probably wasn't the best idea to finish last minute but that's always been my style. With the taste of bacon on my breath from the Good Table in Cape Elizabeth I headed to the PWM Jetport and said my last good-byes to Simon and Cheif (my families golden). Having no real plan definitely made me nervous but I'm excited! I have two-layovers on my way to San Jose, CR but I don't mind seeing some more of the US before I finally leave...Pictures coming soon hopefully
