One week at Pardada Pardadi girl's school

I've got use of a laptop, so, typing is easier than on the Kindle. The next step is going to be uploading some pictures off my camera!

We're doing OK - just trying to get through each day. It's hot and sticky! (never thought I'd be too hot) The food is good at the school, but, meals are served at 6 hour intervals. We need more frequent feedings! We're trying to work out supplementation. Oliver is selective, doesn't like to eat foods that are mixed together. Fortunately he loves white rice with salt!?! He also eats whole tomatos, apples and bananas. We had a jar of good peanut butter from home, but, he just polished that off, so we're going to catch a ride back to Delhi (a hair raising 3 hours away) to find a grocery store. We bought a jar of local peanut butter in Rishikesh. It is actually very tasty, but, doesn't meet the little prince's standard - it's got peanut skins mixed in! It's amazing how adaptable kids are, though. Oliver is still doing all the things he likes to do: catch bugs and frogs. he chases geckos and watches birds and loves the monkeys. He likes to be around other kids, but, the attention gets overwhelming. We hav a habit of playing frisbee after school with a smallish group of girls. They want him to play with them sooo bad, but, he plays hard to get. It really drives the adults crazy when he doesn't let them pinch his cheeks and fawn all over him. They'll never get that he still parses words with his life long babysitter! Oh well.

In general we're wondering how long we'll stay at the school. It's an awesome place, what they're doing, but, it doesn't feel loke we have much to offer. At least not much considering the energy it's taking to get by here. We're constantly assessing the cost(toour sanity and health) to benefit. A trip into Delhi, as exhausting as THAT seems, will give us an opportunity to reflect, hopefully. We're also considering other places to travel to - Nepal, Southern, coastal India, Indonesia.....

In the meantime, we are helping with some English skill where we can and doing some cross-culture exchange. I'm teaching yoga in the mornings to a small group of girls in English. I'm also trying to get a hold of a couple skateboards to introduce them to the sport.

Aloha from Anupshahr!

Treasure or Trash

Following our second yard sale in as many months, with a little over a week before we leave Washington State, it's time to make hard decisions about what to keep or give away. I've been taking a carloads of stuff to our 10x15 storage unit, every couple days on average, since we rented it a couple weeks ago. Here's a list of the assortment of ourTreasures that I loaded on the dolly this evening.

Skimboard, folding wooden drying rack, adjustable stool w/wheels, plasic foot rest, moto-x helmet, dehumidifier, mini guitar amp, R/C truck, 2 barbie sets, file box of CDs, file box of DVDs, file box of yoga blocks and books, wicker valise of folded cloth.

Aside from some of the g-rated DVDs, only one item is specifically Oliver's - guess which?
