I’ve been robbed.
The pricing of fuel across Australia varies. Near the major centres the price is a reasonable $1.26 to $1.34 per litre.
Getting to the remote and rural areas I saw the price of fuel as high as $1.83 for basic unleaded. I attributed it to higher distribution costs.
Crossing the Nullarbor changed my idea on this.
In Norseman – rural but not remote – when I started the trip the price was $1.40.
A couple hundred kilometres down the road at Balladonia it was $1.76 – the highest price on the Nullarbor.
They know you are in a bind if you didn’t purchase fuel at Caiguna where it is still overpriced at $1.70.
Why can these people get away with charging exorbitant prices when in the furthest reaches of the Nullarbor; Eucla and Mundrabilla sell petrol for $1.47.
I wonder, “Does it all come off the same truck?”
It isn’t all about delivery costs. There is something else going on out here in the forgotten reaches of Australia; furthest from civilization. Further north people drove around with two 45 gallon drums in the back of their Ute which they filled up when in towns with lower priced petrol.
Imagine my surprise upon arriving at Nundroo Roadhouse to find petrol for $1.37.
If you read this before crossing the Nullarbor. Plan your fuel stops to get the best prices. Saving $0.40 per litre or even a measly $0.20 per litre can make a big difference in final price.
Ok, I’ve ranted enough but I’m sure you see my point.
