Ths is Fatima, one of the many girls in the government run school in Gizri, Karachi. Having completed a doll made on a spoon, she was more than eager to have a picture with her accomplishment. I loved how her dolls had contrasting characteristics and emotions.

This picture was taken at a government run primary school in one of the many slums in Karachi. The kid is actually the son of the security gaurd who works at this particular school. The child in the picture; Ateeq, is one of the many children trying to change their destiny and aptly copied his father at duty. Looking with intent eyes, he has won my heart and certainly the multitude of people around him.

These two had just sat down on the bench near Frere Hall, Karachi, and they saw me with this really big camera, the man on the left could not resist waving at me and asking me to take a picture, which I quite eagerly did take.
I walked up to them and showed the picture to them, they were quite happy with what they saw. Then the guy on the left, introduced himself to me, he works in one of the leather factories in Korangi. The other guy was really reserved as he did not talk much.
The fact that they spoke to me in English was quite impressive, why they spoke to me in English was because they accidentally took me as a foreigner. The fact they spoke understandable English was again, not expected, but impressive.

What I captured was not just two people sitting in the park... I captured the common hardworking man in Karachi, trying to make a living, an honest one, quite welcoming and courteous.

After taking the picture, there was a string of violent protests in the city, I thought of these two, and how their, and the lives of many others, may have been affected by the volatile situation in the city. The two people walking behind them them made it look like their souls have escaped their bodies, quite what I think happened during the protest
