-Master of All I Survey- In Cambodia we walked through the slums that were nearby the school we were helping at. I had a chat to this guy and asked to take his picture. He lives in the slums and tries to get work day-by-day at construction sites in order to make whatever money he could. Pictured behind him is a pretty standard “wall” of a slum house. It isn’t solid; it’s just an old advertising banner.

-Left Behind-
This image was taken at the sobering Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh. A high school before the Khmer Rouge Regime in the `70s turned it into the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21), it saw an estimated 17,000 people were tortured and imprisoned in just four short years. Of that 17,000 only seven people survived. This cell, constructed in an old classroom, held officers of the Khmer Rouge after their own leaders turned on them. Beds (and sometimes bloodstains) are pretty much kept how they were found when the UN came to Cambodia and intervened.

-The Hope for a Future-
Cambodia is a beautiful country with a rich, and unfortunately bloody, history. This is a picture of a young boy who lives in the slum near the rubbish dump. Cambodia has a lot of help and aid from both inside the country and outside, and it all makes a difference, but stories like this boy’s are still all too common. There’s still a long way to go.
