Rabies

Standing on the street in Mysore, India, I was surprised to find a dog licking an open wound on my leg. Soon after, I heard that the same dog was roaming the streets, crazed and rabid, and had bitten several people. The dog was found dead later in the day — from rabies. I immediately went to the local hospital where a doctor advised I needed an immediate shot of rabies immunoglobin followed by a further series of five rabies vaccinations. Watch out for stray dogs in India!

How World Nomads helped
