Altitude sickness

I was trekking at 14,500 feet and started to feel very ill. I had loss of mental ability. Immediatly I decended to the altitude which I had slept at the night before. The next day, I descended further to Cusco, Peru. I felt better that night, but on awaking the next morning, I felt ill and my girlfriend got a doctor. Upon arriving at the hostal the doctor preformed test, much like a sobriety test. I failed these test and was admitted to the Clinica Pardo where I was treated for high-altitude cerebral edema. That night I also developed symtoms of giardia, which was confirmed by tests the next morning. All together I spent three night in the Clinic being treated for both illnesses.
