Want to go camping with us?

We have spent the last 5 nights in 5 different campgrounds.  Chile has a thriving camping culture, so there are campgrounds everywhere. However, it’s winter, so there is actually no one camping. The showers have all been turned off, and the fire pits lie dormant.   Kind of like a ghost town, without the ghosts and the town. This is nice in a way. We always get to choose the best campsite.  Never a line for the bathroom. Sometimes we have to pay sometimes we don’t. No one bothers us.  And we have all the stray dogs to ourselves.  Once in La Serena, there was even an abandoned stage, so Dom held a private concert for me.  It was nice.

But there’s something about these abandoned campsites that I really don’t like.  What is it?  The eerie silence?  The fog that creeps through the night? The dog that stole my slipper? No, I’ll tell you what it is.  When we sit around the campfire, looking out into the night, I start to think about all the times I have been enjoyed this very same scene with people that I love so much.  And oh, how I wish you were sitting beside us now.
