My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Botswana | Friday, July 5, 2013 | flickr photos

My interest in photography and natural history began at a young age thanks to my grandmother. She would keep me occupied with documentaries, Nat Geo Magazines & photo albums from my great-grandfathers time spent in the Amazon in the early 1900's. This instilled a sense of adventure in me as well as an intense passion for images, culture, wildlife, landscapes and the conservation of them.

Entering adulthood I started to travel, at first to large cities until I started a job on cruise ships in the Caribbean and Central America. Whilst my colleagues were exploring the local bars I was exploring the local jungles, reefs and archaeological sites. I have since explored many places including Komodo island in Indonesia, Peru & Colombia.

I now work as a graphic designer for a travel company & look at great photos all day but wish I was out there taking them. I was given the opportunity last year to travel to Southern Africa. I was finally living the life that seemed so exotic and impossible sitting on the rug at my grandmothers house all those years ago! I feel my whole life has been leading me towards being an adventurer and photographer, I am just looking for that break to get me there!
