The night I got lost

SOUTH AFRICA | Wednesday, 7 May 2014 | Views [117] | Scholarship Entry

How did I end up lost in a foreign country at night. Stuck in the streets of Trondheim I felt like the world had come to an end.

Not knowing which direction to take I began to walk retracing my steps from the mornings departure from the apartment I had spend the night before.

I must have walked in circles for nearly an hour then I remembered that in front of the building was a outdoor skating rink. I continued to walk in search of an outdoor ice rink which I found in literally ten minutes.

Opposite it was the building. But the problem is the building looked like an old factory it couldn’t have been the apartment I spent the night before . So I didn’t enter. I walked passed it and headed another direction. In my mind I had a particular building in mind and that wasn’t it. After another hour. Cold frustrated hungry and having slipped and fell about a 100 times, my backside sore I gave up.

Scared tears run down my cheeks and I began to sob. It was a beautiful night in a beautiful city however I couldn’t fully enjoy this beautiful city because I didn’t know where the hell I was.

A taxi pulled in front of me the driver asked where I was going I told him I was lost.He offered to take me to the university that where we had the workshops. hen I saw the university. He dropped me off at Studentfundunte which is the central meeting point for all the students.

Luckily there a 24 hour help Centre that was open. I went in there and explained my dilemma they called my host . I took the 1am bus and it dropped me off at a bus stop not far from the one I had climb off earlier. Afraid that I might get lost again I sat on the bench and waited.

I saw a tall man walking towards me as he got closer I realized it was my host I began to tell him what happened. As we were walking I noticed we were headed to the building I had passed earlier the one with the outdoor ice rink opposite it, the one that looked like a factory that one.

Never in my life have I felt so stupid. I was so embarrassed I vowed to not tell anyone of my stupidity ever.
