WHAT are you trying to do? Poison me?

Who else would put a huge 'Supermarche' sign over the exit to the supermarket and keep the entrance hidden? Where else would you see a well dressed gentleman brawl with a taxi driver over the cab? Who else does u-turns in the middle of a six lane freeway? Which city would allow a string of tourist buses to park in the middle of a two lane tunnel right under the middle of the city miraculously not causing traffic chaos?

Ah, Roma. You have to love this crazy city.

I'd spend an absolute fortune on clothes if I lived here. Or should that be I'll spend a fortune on clothes when I live here? Of all the European cities to live in for a while Roma is pretty appealing at many levels.

Unfortunately we only had two days scheduled on this trip and one of these I had the misfortune to have to head over to England on business.

England is just depressing and as I left I wondered how on earth I'd managed to escape.

The food is simply beyond belief. Are they trying to poison you or what? The chicken and cheese sandwich on the BA flight looked as if it had died. I didn't touch it and that was despite not having eaten anything all day. The only place I have ever had worse food was Algeria. The service? What service. Well, I suppose the BA flight at least departed on time. The attitudes? I shudder at the small island mentality that is still alive and well.

And for those of you thinking I haven't been to London recently, I have and the food and culture has changed enormously ... but London isn't representative of Britain.

The fact that I have committed myself to three visits a year as part of our business fills me with dread.

Rome on the other hand is in need of some serious exploration.
