WorldNomads.com's Insurance Director, Graham Kingaby, recently wrote a post on Travel Insurance & Terrorism to better explain when a policy would cover you and when it would not.
It sparked many questions from WorldNomads.com policy holders asking for clarification on their specific situation. We've decided to publish below details from our various Policy Disclosure Documents pertaining specifically to terrorism and Government issued Travel Warnings clauses.
As our name implies, World Nomads offers travel insurance to people in over 150 countries across the globe. Our product, underwriter and cover varies according to your country of residence. Please ensure you read the details that apply to your specified Country of Residence and before purchasing any insurance policy, be sure to read the full terms and conditions outlined within the policy wording.
For residents of Australia and New Zealand
Underwriter: Mondial Australia / New Zealand
Travel warnings:If there was known civil commotion / unrest in an area you were travelling to and this was reported by the government or mass media prior to your policy purchase and the problems then escalate, the claims department may deny a claim based on the grounds that you knew there was unrest in an area you were travelling to, prior to purchasing a policy.
Terrorism:We will not pay for a loss that arises directly or indirectly from an act or threat of terrorism. This exclusion only relates to section 2A Cancellation Costs.
There is a provision for cover for injuries sustained due to a terrorist attack as long as there was not advice in the mass media of a government or other official bodies warning against all travel to a particular country or of an intended strike.
You must also have taken appropriate action to avoid or minimise any potential claim under your policy.

Terrorism - medical and cancellation while traveling:As per the policy wording, we will not cover any medical expenses or cancellation costs that arise directly or indirectly from an act of terrorism committed by an organized terrorist group (recognized as such by the Canadian Government), occurring in the city and country of your destination if at the time of booking your trip the Canadian Government had issued a travel advisory regarding terrorist activity.
