In 1999 I spent several months in China. It was a super trip. My huband was a student of mandarin in Beijing. After our trip he returned to China and studied for another year at Kunming Normal School. He was theoldest student there with the exception of a catholic priest. While in Li Jiang I passed by a shop selling beautiful hand carved canes. I returned later only to find the shop was closed, I would still like to buy one. I'm wondering if you saw them when you were there. I did think I'd found one at one of the river stops on the Yangtze but it turned out to be a plaster of Paris replica.

Best Wishes
