My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Apart from fine wines, the area is one of South Africa’s' biggest olive producing regions and olive trees are found everywhere – this one is happily growing in front of an art gallery.

Wine farms in the valley produce some of the best wines in the country, shiraz being the flagship variety. This time of the year the vineyards are a colour feast – green, yellow, brown and deep red.

One of the pleasures experienced when visiting Riebeek Kasteel is that no one cares about time but they do about each other and when you sit down in a coffee shop or restaurant the table is yours for as long as you want it. For me, this picture epitomise that timeless feeling. The frayed hat; a word puzzle and not suduko; a newspaper not a tablet. Converting it to black and white was an obvious route to take.
