Fantastic Adventures in Singapore

SINGAPORE | Friday, 10 February 2012 | Views [75]

When I’m looking for excitement and adventure, and when I’m tired of staying at home and doing the same old things, the first thing I start looking for are cheap flights to Singapore! Singapore is located on the tip of the Malay Peninsula, and this vibrant city-state has plenty to offer both experienced world travelers and people who are looking for their first international vacation. Singapore is a fascinating study in contrasts, and in my personal opinion, it has a great deal to give even the casual vacationer.
First, think about what you want to do while you are in Singapore. For example, if you’ve got kids in tow, head for the Singapore Science Centre, where you can check out more than 1000 interactive exhibits. Similarly, if you want to take a walk on the wild side, head to the Singapore Night Safari, where you can see animals in a nocturnal environment. Little India provides you with both fun entertainment and fabulous food, while the Singapore Botanic Gardens lets you enjoy the beauty of a small rainforest and ginger garden right in the city.
Before you start booking your Singapore flights, however, you should be aware of a few important facts about the city. For example, be aware that the climate is warm and wet. Singapore has a tropical climate, and that means that you should pack plenty of light clothing in natural fibers. Make sure that you wear plenty of layers which can be taken on and off. This is especially clever if you get caught in a rain storm; then you can take off the wet layer and keep going. If you are planning to head to some of the city’s most fashionable dining spots, you may wish to pack some formal wear as well. Personally, I think that khakis, light shirts, light skirts, T-shirts and polo shirts are a fine way to dress.
One of the things that foreigners remark on when they come to Singapore is how clean it is. It is one of the world’s cleanest cities, so if you come to visit, make sure that you keep it that way! There is no smoking allowed in public buses, in elevators, in theaters and in government buildings, among others. Pay attention to the signage and for the most part you will be fine. When a first offense can cost you 1000 dollars, it is worth your while to be cautious.
Singapore has plenty of beautiful architecture, and much of it is religious in nature. Both mosques and temples are represented in this city. If you choose to visit these places, remember that they are places of worship. Take a moment and ask before taking pictures. Do not be surprised if you are asked to take off your shoes before entering a temple or mosque.
Singapore is one of my favorite places in the world, and if you come to see its beauty and its wonder, I don’t doubt that it could be one of yours as well!
