Australian Eastern Water Dragon- The Macquarie River is teaming with these beautiful Water Lizard’s. Their natural habitat is around the margins of creeks and rivers and feed on a variety of insects and aquatic life. Without the life flow of the Macquarie River, many of these creatures will die.

Eastern Long-Necked Turtle-The Orange council intends to pump out 1400 mega litres of water per
year, with a maximum of 1800 mega litres, significantly decreasing water flow to areas further down the Macquarie River and drying up small creeks which are home to countless species of turtle, fish, mammals and native flora.

Impending Drought- The Macquarie River is a vital source of water for not only natural wildlife, but also tens of thousands of cattle and sheep. These Herds
are the livelihood of generations of farming families round the area.
