My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

A native of Cape Breton Island, Canada, I am an avid photographer, an adventurous woman and my camera has been my constant companion. My fascination for travel was cultivated at an early age by my father as he traveled worldwide and brought home books, pictures and trinkets. I was an inquisitive child with an insatiable appetite for stories of the people, customs and history of places my dad visited. I spent hours in front of atlases, globes and National Geographic magazines asking questions and wondering what it would be like to experience life as others do. My passion for photography developed from my own travels as I tried to capture every unique feature of the world around me. It is my curiosity of the world and my desire to capture its moments that drive me to make a better shot. I want to focus on the pure form and how it can present magical places and unique people; from the small details that make up our everyday life, to expansive landscapes that take us to another place. A mentorship with World Nomads and National Geographic would give me that hands-on experience needed to perfect my work and the opportunity to learn from the experienced and talented Jason Edwards.
