My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Turkey | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

When I was 8 years old, my father set up a darkroom for me. I knew nothing about photography, but as he taught me to shoot with his old Pentax and lose hours making prints, I was hooked. From that point on, photography was always a part of my life. Years later, I am still madly addicted to shooting film.I discovered a passion for travel around 2008, and the two have been wedded ever since. I am currently living as an expat in Istanbul to focus on both—my love of travel and my love of photography.
I constantly challenge myself to learn more about film photography techniques and storytelling. For me, film is evocative and full of possibilities. However, I have been craving a more substantial mentorship for some time. I have a lot to learn, and a lot of ways to grow. I would like to turn my photography hobby into a profession. It’s important to me to LOVE my work, and shooting pictures is something that never ceases to make me happy. The notion of not taking photos is inconceivable to me. Photography is an integral part of how I function, how I experience, how I create. Being able to not only use photography as a tool to communicate but also to support myself would be beautiful.
