Ever entrepreneurial, Turkish street salesmen started hawking everything from cheap surgical-style masks to swimming goggles to Ataturk memorabilia to capitalize on the protests in Gezi Park.

Even the buskers on Istiklal Caddesi adapted to the times. This band played their whole set wearing gas masks.

While the government called the protesters occupying Gezi Park “marauders,” and “terrorists,” inside the park itself the scene was worlds away from that—it was friendly, relaxed, and joyful. Most people camped out in tents but a few got more creative with their sleeping space and set up hammocks.
