I know you said it was open top but this is crazy!
An early start to the day as we had to catch the 7:00a.m. bus. (We, being me, Tim, Lisa and Barbara-Jean from NY/LA) We had a transfer point at Snoul, where we would get another bus to our destination, Sen Monorom. Unfortunately, there were no buses, just a fully laden pick up truck. After much negotiations (as usual), the four of us, plus three locals climbed on top of the truck. Balanced on top of crates of chickens and a variety of random stuff we set off eastbound for the Mondulkiri. The Mondulkiri Province is a world away from the rest of Cambodia and very remote. As we drove into the jungle on the bumpy dusty road, the climate noticeable dropped.... which to be honest was a refreshing change. In addition to diverse wildlife here, there are tigers (although no-one has ever seen one).
After a very long a windswept ride we arrived at Sen Monorom and checked into the Nature Lodge just on the outskirts of the town. It’s a very basic set up with various lodges scattered amongst the hillside setting. Since it was late there was little else to do except have something to eat, have a shower in the outside hut together with the mosquitoes, and get some sleep.
