Hi World Nomads!

My name is Joey Schiappa, I am twenty two years old and am a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago's Cinema Arts and Sciences Program, Class of 2015.

I feel that I am a strong contender for the travel scholarship because I understand the power of luck. While I realize this may sound odd to some, it is because I believe that luck is merely preparation meeting opportunity. For the past four years, I have been dedicated to improving my filmmaking skills, securing my own equipment, and building a portfolio that will (hopefully) have me prepared for new opportunities such as this, which I would most certainly consider to be luck.

In 2016, I will be dedicating one year of my life to NPH Nicaragua, where I will be telling the story of their orphaned children and the volunteers who care for them. I cannot express how valuable it would be to learn from Brian in a Latin American setting before I set off on this journey.

Did I mention I speak spanish?

All in all, I am incredibly grateful to be considered by World Nomads, and am happy to have had the experience of making my application video.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the kind words Joey! Great job on your video as well, I enjoyed your cinematography and strong ending, very deep. I hope I too can one day move out of the city, (Toronto) back into the country where I grew up and belong. Thanks for sharing this story.
