My Scholarship entry - I Survived Dead Woman's Pass

Peru | Monday, November 24, 2014 | flickr photos

My name is Janelle Tan, I'm 18 years old from Ontario, Canada. I am in my first year of undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo for Biomedical Sciences in hopes of pursuing a career as a Pharmacist. In the past I attended a high school specialized in the arts, although my time in that field of study was cut short, I continue to practice art as a hobby with all types of mediums, however, I believe I show greater strength in dry mediums as well as photography. Like most wanderlust individuals, I love travelling. I have been to quiet a few places such as India, Costa Rica, Peru, Rome, Greece and Hawaii. At each location, I grasp a new perspective of life which allows me to continue my journey of self discovery. I believe that knowledge is best absorbed when your resources are right in front of you rather than in the confined walls of a classroom. I should be chosen for this scholarship because it will challenge artistic abilities, ultimately allowing me to grow as a photographer while working alongside Jason Edwards. Though I have settled on my future goals, being able to take on an opportunity like such will guide me to the career where I am truly doing what I love.
