My Scholarship entry - The Contrasts of Peru

While hiking up to the summit of Machu Picchu mountain, on a day with ill-tempered weather, one can lose track of the view and get lost in the smoky chill of the clouds. Soaring heights are diminished to just a few feet and temperatures plummet as the sun is blocked from the skin. Heart rates can rise, not just because of the elevation, but because of the isolation, displacing time for an otherworldly moment.
