Who knew that willie wonka's chocolate factory was inspired by Java? On our decent from Bali, this was my distinct impression- the land flowing with chocolate rivers. Interestingly, I spent a good portion of my childhood playing in those rivers- mostly when my parents weren't watching. This has been the return to the land of my childhood. Just yesterday I was sitting my friend Kara's (parent's) backyard overlooking the ricefields we used to run around in, making up stories of armies we were running from, and other such things. I feel a whole host of ghosts from my former days are taking on flesh again; old life and new life are meeting and becoming friends. When we were kids, we called all western adults 'aunt' and 'uncle'. But they were family for me in more than just name. During this time on Java I have gotten to see and talk to so many of my 'aunts' and 'uncles'. And since they were almost all parents of my friends, I have also reconnected with childhood friends. Time, and the way it does NOT effect certain parts of our hearts and memories, is so interesting. beautiful. I am also being blessed with new friends and 'family'. Life sometimes is incredibly rich. Syukur-lah.
