San Pedro Market

PERU | Tuesday, 26 May 2015 | Views [157] | Scholarship Entry

I discovered the market of San Pedro in Cusco. It had all of the usual llama merchendise, but there was something different about it. The jumpers, keyrings and hats sat next to food, flowers and coca leaves. These were things you could see the locals buying on a daily basis. Huge slabs of beef, twenty different types of potatoes and brightly coloured juices; this was the most amazing supermarket I had ever seen. You could cure anything by coming here I believed. Altitude sickness? Try some coca leaves. Tired? Sample the coffe from the vendors in the middle. Upset and unhappy? Wander for half an hour in the warren of the stalls. I ended up going back every day I was in Cusco. It made me happy to see everyone going about their business, tourists and locals mixing together in this beautiful, bustling venue.
