it's hard. they say give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime. but how do you teach someone to fish when there's no river, or the river is dirty and the fish poisoned? it's so overwhelming. Does giving a child a few pennies in the street really perpetuate the cycle of poverty when there's no way the cycle is going to be broken without a remodeling of the entire infrastructure of society? i suppose you could carry food products, vitamins, vaccinations, shoes and pass those out instead. i have no answers. i don't even have suggestions.Personally, i find it extremely difficult not to give in to a begging child. it may not always be right and it might just be a worthless bandage on a wound that's never going to heal.but what else is there?i don't want to be the man that can simply walk by and ignore a child that's only crime is being born. i think that loss of humanity is how the problem began and how it remains.
