Whispering tales of Magic

How are ye? and other local catch phrases

IRELAND | Saturday, 17 October 2009 | Views [49]

Well i have been here a few months now and I'm geting the hang of the local lingo.

There was a light bulb moment, when i suddenly realised that "How are ye?" is the same as "Hello". They not actually asking how i am! And the standard reply is "Grand thanks, and you?"

A 'yoke' is another word for a thing.

Pants are trouses, not underwear.

Oh yeah, and everything shuts for lunch! The post office, the bank, the tax office, the council offices, its mad when you're trying to get stuff done.

And no, we don't live on potato stew!

Take care all xx
