La granadina

It's the spring semester of my junior year, so I am celebrating with un gran viaje filled with classes (unfortunately) and crazy foreign fun.

Weekend the first

I can't believe it's only been a week! Cathedrals, Palaces, and the famous Granadino night life.

The Catedral in Granada. Mostly Baroque, I think. Wow. Views[79] So they're not in this picture at all, but I just have to say that the organs were amazing. Views[73] The interior is almost entirely natural lighting. The pic's kinda dark, but the white stone and windows made it just as bright as outside. Views[85] View from the Torre de la Vela at the Alhambra. The Sierra Nevadas are lovely. Views[75] The Palacio Nazaries (in the Alhambra) is full of amazing examples of Moorish architecture and embellishment. This is an exterior wall of one of the courtyards. Views[88]

The bottom is all geometric tiling, while the top is crazy intricate plaster moldings that were once fully painted in with every color imaginable. The ceilings are carved wood or more plaster insanity. Views[89] Different room, but a closer view of the Palacio's decorative style (and a glimpse of more courtyard). Views[71] The Alhambra is really a city-within-a-city, its own walled-in section of Granada. Thousands of members of court lived in houses like this. And yes, that is a palm tree in January.
